Yria cafe was established in 1998 and opened for business on the 3rd of May of the same year. The proprietor of Yria Cafe is Vassilis Pouliezos.
The building is constructed in traditional Zakynthian style using the traditional colours and a mix of textures including Bordeaux, natural shades of brown, traditional stone and wood. It uses lighting in a subtle way to create a relaxing inviting environment. We are thankful to the artist Adigoni Gioka for her contributions to the interior design where her artwork is displayed.
The name Yria is taken from the ancient history of the island. Yria according to the ancient Greek historian Plinios was the ancient Greek name for the island.
This information is taken from the ancient Greek poet Homer who calls Zakynthos Ilyessa. Also the name Yria was that of the area that since WWII has been known as Katastari. Part of the beauty from the era of Homer we try to recreate in the present day at Yria Cafe.
A wonderful welcome is awaiting you at Yria Cafe for all our visitors where you can enjoy Illy espresso coffee, satisfying breakfast, a selection of salads or one of our famous freshly prepared sweet or savoury crepes. For refreshment try an iced glass filled with Mythos (Greek beer). Keep in touch with loved ones, family or business back home with the worldwide web through the internet on one of our computers.
Our delicious home made desserts made by Dimitra (mother of the owner) and our great variety of ice creams will fulfil your desires.
After enjoying your day on the wonderful beach of Alykes, visit the happy atmosphere of Yria bar and listen to a variety of music from the nostalgic decade of sixties, the revolutionary decade of the seventies, the romantic decade of the eighties to the full rhythmic music of the present day.
The evening passes by so easily trying one of our cocktails with shots coming one after the other and the iced beer of Mythos flowing in the frozen glasses.
Yria cafe organises themed events including live jazz music and toga parties. And ancient Greek dress night.
We wish you a happy summer and good times
Your host Vassilis
